Novak Djokovic and his new coach Andy Murray will begin his preparation for next month’s Australian Open by playing at the Brisbane International where Nick Kyrgios will make his return to the court.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion, who is aiming for an 11th crown at Melbourne Park, hired two-time Wimbledon champion Murray to train it up to and during the 2025 opening major.

“He knows my game very well and everything I’ve been through,” Djokovic said in Spanish at a news conference ahead of Juan Martin del Potro’s farewell match in Buenos Aires. “He knows the things that are wrong with my game, all my mistakes.”

Djokovic explains why he chose his old rival Murray as his new coach

Djokovic has been without a full-time coach since splitting from Goran Ivanisevic in March.

“We faced each other on the biggest stages of our sport, but in the end, our friendship was bigger than the rivalry,” Djokovic added.

Djokovic will compete alongside Brisbane’s reigning champion Grigor Dimitrov at the ATP 250 event, which begins on December 29. live on Sky Sports Tennis.

Dane Holger Rune and American Frances Tiafoe are also among the participants, while Kyrgios will make his return to the field after only managing one match in the last two years due to repeated injuries.

The women’s event is equally impressive with four players in the top 10, including world number 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro and Daria Kasatkina.

Victoria Azarenka will also be there, rounding out the top 20 of the women’s team’s 11 players.

Great Britain Emma Raducanu will begin her season in Auckland, New Zealand alongside Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff, with the tournament set to begin on December 30 – live Sky Sports Tennis.

Raducanu injured her ankle in mid-October, but made a successful return to action at the Billie Jean King Cup final in Malaga, where she remained undefeated as she helped Great Britain reach the semi-finals.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz has hired Samuel Lopez to work alongside Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Lopez was a member of the Spanish Olympic team in 2000 and 2012 and Alcaraz, 21, believes the duo can help him return to the top of the rankings.

“I think Samuel, for me, is one of the best coaches we have on tour,” Alcaraz said. “They trust each other 100% and to be able to travel with both of them, for me, it’s going to be great. I think I’m going to grow as a player thanks to them.

“I think we will work quite hard and quite well for the next season and the years to come. I hope we will achieve good results together.”
